traditional Korean norigae design
A small Korean silk pouch featuring traditional floral embroidery on cream-colored silk. The pouch displays a stylized pink peony or lotus bloom with green leaves, executed in satin stitch embroidery. The rectangular pouch has a gathered top closure secured with a navy blue braided cord that extends into long black silk tassels. The tassels are constructed from multiple twisted silk strands that hang freely in parallel lines. This type of accessory, known as a norigae or similar traditional Korean ornamental pouch, would have been worn suspended from clothing or carried for small personal items. The embroidery technique shows careful attention to color gradation within the floral motifs.
